United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
Refugee Rights and Resettlement Program
Overview
UNHCR stands for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. It is a deeply important international body, for it makes decisions that directly impact the lives of millions around the world. Topic 1 is the Horn of Africa refugee crisis, marked by violence, climate change, conflict, poverty, and governance issues. Topic 2, on the other hand, is the refugee and humanitarian crisis of Venezuela, characterized by authoritarianism, economic mismanagement, and mass immigration out of the country under the Maduro administration. In this committee, each decision made can mean life or death for the people involved.
